From humble beginnings...

Our little business simply started out by building a birdhouse for my wife Jeni, and thanks to social media, seven years later we’re still creating unique handcrafted pieces. The backbone of  our creations come from reclaimed lumber which include (but not limited to) barn board and pallet wood. We have also built items from repurposing old furniture such as dining tables, chairs, dressers and even vintage upright pianos! Local “Tobacco Sticks” and rescued snow fence have also worked their way into our items. We have a lot of our old favourites in our product line, but are always ready to try out some brand new ideas.

The Reclaimed Nest

Although it definitely is winter, I haven’t been hibernating but I merely have shifted my focus in another direction for the next little while. Pat Montgomery (my Mother-in-law) has passionately put her heart and soul into her store @candlelightandmemories for 22 years. She has decided that at the end of June, she will dissolve her unique Main St business, sell her store and retire. Although bittersweet, the next few months will give her time to celebrate her years of dedication with her customers. Please stop by for tea, to shop and to share some memories by signing her book. Don’t forget to purchase a limited edition tote bag while you were there. #retiringsoon #shoplocal #nextchapterbegins #thanksforyoursupport ...

When you get to pull apart old furniture, it’s amazing what you come across. When I was ripping down old pianos that were made in the turn of the 19th century, I have came across a shocking discovery, that it was actually small pieces of poplar, glued together, and then laminated. This is also true for a century old dining room table that someone left for me. It’s amazing how these cabinet makers put these boards together 100 years ago and they just seem to be ageless. I had fun today building four unique trays. Two were out of this dark table top and the other two were an old pine table that matched the Tobacco Stick perimetered perfectly. #lovewhatidodowhatilove #traycommander ...

Great morning! Just up and out in the shop with these recycled raised platforms. All of the materials given to me by Ryan from @talsmabuilding and delivered them to me (through our dear wives). He had these leftover pieces from a project or two that he had completed. I’m not calling these “upcycled” or “recycled” but simply calling them “friend-cycled” Many thanks! #shoplocal #traycommander ...

I have to admit it sure has been a nice couple weeks, not feeling the pressure of being out in my shop for every waking moment, but in all honesty, it was sure nice to be back out here making a custom order as serving boards. The most interesting instructions I had for these trays is that they would had to fit in a carry-on bag as gifts to clients while they travel back home. #traycommander #backinthesaddle #coldweatherwarmshop ...

Are you looking for that uniquely special gift for that person that’s hard to buy for? We might have the answer for you! This small batch of “Record Crates” have been made from locally sourced 175 year old Barn Board or reclaimed vegetable crates from Holland Landing. Each and every one of these, (although being the same measurement) are uniquely different. Every one of these pieces of wood could tell a story right down to the Tobacco Sticks which we get from southern Ontario. We don’t have many of these, so let me know if you want me to put one aside and I can do so…….price for these is $40. #10shoppingdaysleft #nopressure ...
